New Electronic Airflow Indicator from flextraction Ltd

Posted October 11, 2010

flextraction Ltd, supplier and manufacturer of Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) products has launched a new, small in size, Electronic Airflow Indicator. The Airflow Indicators are for use on all LEV (Local Exhaust Ventilation) hoods or at any LEV point on the extraction hose where it can be easily seen by the operator. They ensure that the airflow is adequate to control operator exposure to industrial dust and fumes, including hazardous and corrosive fumes, at the point of source.

Airflow Indicator

These Electronic Airflow Indicators are designed for use in a multitude of industries including surface grinding, welding, product tipping, drum filling, food processing and all manufacturing applications where dust and fumes are emitted. Importantly, not only do they visually show the operator if the airflow is correct by a green LED or if it is in-correct by a red LED, they also have a built in audible alarm indicating if there is a fall in the air flow velocity.

Features include an indication of system performance by means of a single LED and constant monitoring, thereby ensuring operator protection at all times. The Airflow Indicator has no external buttons or switches thus preventing operator interference of the unit. Calibration and set up are straightforward and are carried out through the utilisation of internal switches and these are undertaken by flextraction at time of installation. The unit is powered by 4 x AA batteries, giving up to 2 years continuous operation.

Lee Darton, General Manager (Products) at flextraction said: “Section 106 of the Health and Safety Document – Controlling Airborne Contaminants at Work (HSG 258) states: ‘Employees need an airflow indicator at every hood because the operator needs some simple indication that the hood is working properly. It becomes critical when the operator has to adjust a damper to get adequate airflow. The airflow indicator must indicate simply and clearly when the airflow is adequate...’ These units are not only simple to install and economic to run, but they are a very cost effective means of ensuring that the user is protected from industrial fume and dust at all times."
