Determining the Capture Zone of a Dust & Fume Extraction Arm

Capture hoods are designed, as their name suggests, to capture contaminants emitted from a given process. To be effective the hoods have to be placed at or near the point where the emissions are generated.  However, ‘near’ the point of emission is only good enough if all effecting factors are taken into consideration in order to determine the correct capture zone; the area in which the capture hood works effectively.

In determining the correct area of capture, factors such as the movement of the contaminant within the air, the density of the particles which could effect their motion and any turbulent effect of the air around the process application, all have to be considered.
